2010 Fall Youth Crew Awards Party
On November 20th the NRR Board and Coaches threw a party for the many outstanding young men and women who practiced hard to win races and seats in boats this season. Since awards for seniors and MVP awards are given out in the spring, we introduced 4 new awards to recognize some of the youth who stood out this fall.
The Most Improved award went to Tori Ball and Matt Baumer, rowers who showed very noticeable improvements in their rowing technique and endurance, including the best jumps in their 5K ERG scores.

The Unsung Hero award went to Juli Gregg and Eric Sibrian (Pictured here with coaches Mark Malone & John Crilly), who showed a remarkable dedication to rowing and a commitment to practice, racing and volunteering at the NRR site.

The Energizer Bunny award goes to Mercy “Triple Latte” Lister and Sean “Stop to Breathe Between Sentences” Murphy (left), who never seemed to tire out. They were pumped for their ERG tests and always ready to row another mile.
The Rising Star Quad award goes to 4 Home Team rowers who made tremendous strides during the fall. For the Boys: David Clark and Kevin Brennan For the Girls: Clair Walsh and Grace Eckstein

2010 Bridge Race Series Starts June 8th with Unique "Air Horn" Race

Tuesday, June 8th marks the beginning of another great series of bridge races on the Navesink River. Sponsored by the Monmouth Boat Club rowing fleet, the 11K races are held every other Tuesday throughout the summer. Start time is 5:30 a.m. (Yes, in the morning).
The course runs from buoy 24, east of Marine Park in Red Bank, through the Oceanic Bridge in Rumson and back again. Details available on the MBC webste's rowing fleet pages.
Any NRR member interested in participating is invited to do so - in singles, doubles or quads.
The opening race in the series will be a unique "air horn" race, described as follows by Charlie Gross: "After a mass start, all race towards the Oceanic bridge, but when when the slowest boat passes the red buoy at Fair Haven yacht works, an air horn is blown and everyone crosses to the north shore and races back. We should all finish at about the same time."
All racers will be awarded with donuts and coffee at MBC immediately following the race.
